Mozart Symphonies Challenge
Mozart Symphonies Challenge No.21 – “Prague” Symphony
On 8 March the Mozart Symphonies Challenge continues with Symphony No.38 K.504 “Prague”, one of Mozart’s most distinctive works.
On Sunday 8 March 2026 the Mozart Symphonies Challenge continues with Symphony No.38 in D major K.504, known as the “Prague” Symphony.
Written in 1786–87, during a period of strong connection between Mozart and the Prague audience, this symphony stands out for its three-movement structure and its concentrated orchestral writing.
The slow introduction is among the most sophisticated in Mozart’s symphonic output; wind instruments play a structural role, and balance between sections is essential. In the finale, an evident reference to Le nozze di Figaro reflects the close relationship between opera and instrumental writing.
As in every MSC event, the orchestra will work on the symphony in a single open rehearsal in the afternoon, followed by the evening concert.
Open rehearsal: 3:00 PM
Concert: 8:00 PM
Waldensian Church of Piazza Cavour – Rome
